Electric Toothbrush Reviews, Best Picks and Buying Information

A toothbrush may not seem like such an important decision, but don’t think of it as a brush, think of it as a tool to give you a whiter and healthier smile. There’s little doubt in my mind that an electric toothbrush is the best way to get you there.

What might not be quite so clear is which brush is the best one on the market and that’s probably because there isn’t one particular brush that’s best for everyone. We all have individual preferences and our purchase decision should revolve around our own unique needs; not necessarily the recommendations of our friends or family members. It always pays to make an informed decision using the best information available to us, by taking our own individual needs into account.

Our site should be viewed as more of a navigational tool to help you steer your way through all of your different options. There are all kinds of helpful reviews here that will compare the different types of electric toothbrushes out there. We don’t just stop at reviews though – there are plenty of great articles that explain to you the different features that you might find on electric toothbrushes as well. How you choose to use the information we’ve included on our site is your decision and your decision alone.

What You’ll Find in the Reviews

We’ve reviewed just about every type of electric brush on the market; you’ll find reviews of some of the most expensive products around as well as reviews on the more affordable ones. There are also reviews on this site that look at kid’s electric toothbrushes, including information on how well these products address the unique needs of children. We’ve even included a couple of reviews on products that combine brushing with flossing. The bottom line is, there are a lot of reviews here and we hope they’re helpful to you. We’ve tried to maintain a consistent format so that you’ll quickly get the hang of where are going with each review, but obviously each one will be a little different.

Of course, this site isn’t just about product reviews – it’s also a place to find some great information about electric toothbrushes in general. In our information articles we consider a lot of different things in a toothbrush that might be important to people. We address the actual mechanics of the brushes, as well as the intangible items that might be important for different individuals. If we’ve done our job right, you’ll find them just as helpful as the actual reviews are to you – at least that’s our hope.

My Best Piks

If you’re thinking that I made a mistake in the title of this section that was actually by design. Don’t mind my attempt at toothbrush humor but it was worth a shot, right? As the title suggests, though, what I really want to talk about in this section is my favorites. What I like might be a little different from what you like, but sometimes you have to stick your neck out a little bit. In this section I briefly discuss my favorite products from the brushes I’ve reviewed, and tell you why they’re my favorites. You’ll find I’ve included brushes at a variety of price points and with different types of features. Hopefully, by providing you with my best picks from different areas, I can give you a better idea of what to look for.

Best with Bluetooth

Oral-B Black 7000 SmartSeries

There’s no place to put the Oral-B Black 7000 other than at the top of this list. It’s definitely one of the more expensive electric toothbrushes on the market, but there’s good reason for that. This product is full of great features and, more importantly, it does a great job of cleaning your teeth. You might call this the Lamborghini of toothbrushes, and that’s no exaggeration.

What makes this toothbrush so special? Well, besides the fact that it does a great job of actually cleaning your teeth, it also comes with six different toothbrush modes. It doesn’t matter whether you have sensitive teeth or you’re looking for a white smile, this brush has an option for you. Perhaps the coolest feature of this brush is that it has built-in Bluetooth technology. All you have to do is download the app to your smartphone and you can then upload the information for each brushing session, which can then be used to track your brushing habits over time. It’s a great feature that definitely got my attention.

Best Premium

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Toothbrush

For me, it wasn’t as easy to include the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean on this list. It’s a great brush, but I had some reservations about it. Overall though, this brush is one of the better products on the market. It doesn’t have Bluetooth like the Oral-B Black 7000, but it does have some other great features that make it hard to leave off the list.

The trademark feature of this brush is that its bristles are diamond-shaped, which allows it to reach into the less-accessible areas better than other brushes. It also has several different modes tailored to different individual needs. My favorite was the gum care mode, specifically designed to gently brush around your gums to help prevent gum disease.

If there’s one feature about this electric toothbrush that caught my eye, though, it was the charging cup – that’s right, the cup actually charges your toothbrush! None of the other toothbrushes we reviewed had this technology and it was quite unique and surprising to find such innovation in a toothbrush. It might not have been enough to make me put this brush up top of the list, but it certainly made me pay attention.

Most Complete

Waterpik Water Flosser and Sonic Toothbrush

Like anybody else I love a good bargain, and when I came across the WaterPik Complete Care package I was definitely impressed. This is a product that combines flossing and sonic toothbrush technology in one package. Separately, neither product may be the best on the market, but when you put them together you get something that’s quite unique.

The WaterPik flossing system uses hydraulic flow in order to spray jets of water between your teeth to remove the particles in between. This company is famous for these types of products and, as you might suspect, this part of the package they did quite well. For a better clean they recommend using mouthwash mixed in with your water.

What did surprise me was the reliable quality of the sonic toothbrush that comes with this device. Any time a company steps outside its comfort zone you’re bound to wonder if they can make it work, but WaterPik has done a pretty good job in this sense. This is definitely a good-quality sonic toothbrush that uses the vibrations of its brush to remove almost 100% more plaque from your teeth than a regular toothbrush.

Best for Kids

Philips Sonicare Electric Kids Toothbrush

What works well for adults won’t necessarily work as well for children. That’s why I thought it was a good idea to include my best pick for children on this list as well. The Philips Sonicare for Kids is a great product that will help your child achieve a whiter smile. It’s quite affordable at just under $40, and the folks at Philips really have created a product that addresses the needs of children.

This brush is smaller than an adult brush so it will fit inside a child’s mouth more easily, and the bristles are softer to help prevent damage to their delicate gum lines. There are few things more heartbreaking than for a parent to have to struggle with their child in order to get them to sit in the dentist chair; this brush can help minimize those trips.

Perhaps the coolest part about this brush is that it also includes Bluetooth connectivity. You simply download an app from the App Store and your kids can then track their progress in the app and achieve fun rewards for brushing their teeth correctly. It may be a bit of a gimmick, but it’s a great way to get kids interested in brushing teeth.

Best Budget Choice

Oral-B Vitality Electric Toothbrush

There’s a good reason that Oral-B appears on this list more than once – put simply, they produce great oral hygiene products. The Oral-B Vitality Dual Clean electric toothbrush is another great product in their line. This brush is quite affordable at under $30 and it comes with some great features.

It has a built-in timer to track how long you’ve been brushing your teeth and lets you know when you’ve reached the allotted two minutes of time. It’s a fully rechargeable model as well, which is great for convenience’s sake. The brush also comes with a dual-clean feature – essentially there are two different sets of bristles on the brush head, each moving in different directions and providing you with a better clean by reaching into the harder to get at areas.

Best Plaque Control

Philips Sonicare 2 Electric Toothbrush

I’ve added the Philips Sonicare 2 Series Plaque Control brush to this list because of its powerful plaque-removal capability. This brush is capable of removing up to six times the plaque of a normal toothbrush, which is quite impressive. It’s also priced quite reasonably at under $50 so it’s not going to break the bank.

It uses sonic vibration technology to achieve up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute and it has a built-in timer for convenience, but these weren’t the features that impressed me most about this brush. This brush by Philips includes something called Easy-Start, which is designed to ease your transition to a sonic brush. Some consumers tend to complain that a sonic brush can be a bit irritating because of its rapid vibration leaving a strange tingly feeling in your mouth. The Easy-Start feature gradually increases the speed of the brush over the first 14 times you use it to allow you to adjust yourself to the different feeling in your mouth.

Best with UV

Sterline Electric Sonic Pulse Toothbrush

The Sterline Sonic Pulse makes this list for one main reason other than its tooth-brushing capabilities – it includes UV cleaning technology, which I thought was a great addition. When you’re not using your brush you put it inside the specially designed UV storage case which bombards the brush with UV light, killing 99% of the bacteria on your brush head. It’s a great feature and a good reason to consider this brush.

Best Bang for your Buck

Pursonic High Power Sonic Toothbrush

The Pursonic High Power brush is the last review we’ve included in our best of list, but that doesn’t mean it belongs at the bottom of the list. This is a great brush that retails for less than $100 – a nice value when you consider what you get with this brush. Not only does it include a great toothbrush, it also comes with 12 replacement heads. This means you can use this brush for your entire family – it’s simply a matter of switching out brush heads when it’s time for a different member to use the brush. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than buying individual electric toothbrushes for the whole family.

You Can Have a Whiter Smile

There is a lot of information to process on this site and that’s why we’ve included our top recommendations above. If you’re short on time, start with these and there’s a good chance you’ll find the product you’re looking for. If you’ve got a little more time to spare, by all means have a look through all of the reviews and information articles in order to make a more informed decision. Oral hygiene is something that all of us should take seriously and this site is a great place to start.
