Oral-B Pro 3000 Rechargeable Toothbrush
The Oral-B Pro 3000 Power rechargeable electric toothbrush is the base model in Oral-B’s Pro series of toothbrushes. The other brushes in this series include Bluetooth connectivity, which sets them apart from the rest of the field. The 3000 has fewer features, including Bluetooth connectivity, than these more expensive models. Still, this is a great toothbrush that rises above most other toothbrushes in the field.
If you love the idea of a toothbrush that’s capable of connecting through Bluetooth to your smartphone and uploading data on your brushing habits, you’ll probably want to upgrade to one of the other brushes in this series. If, on the other hand, you’re more interested in keeping the price tag under $100, then this is the brush you’re looking for. It’s a powerful toothbrush with excellent features at an affordable price. In fact, it may be the best value-for-money of all the brushes I’ve reviewed.
Does It Have Bluetooth?
After reviewing the 5000 and 7000 series of brushes, which both have Bluetooth connectivity, I was expecting to find that the 3000 series would be differentiated because it was missing this feature. While the product description on Amazon does suggest that this model comes with Bluetooth like the other models in the series, many customers suggest that it does not. It seems like it’s more likely that it doesn’t, as I couldn’t find Bluetooth mentioned in any of the product descriptions available for this model on Amazon or on Oral-B’s own website. Probably then, this feature is not included, and if this is an important feature for you you’re better off upgrading to the 5000 or 7000 series brush.
Distinctive Round Brush Head
The Oral-B Pro series 3000 brush is capable of removing up to 97% of plaque from your teeth – that’s a lot more plaque than you’d ever remove with a manual brush. It does this by using a unique round-head brush that actually covers each tooth individually as you brush, taking in all the hard-to-reach areas and ensuring that no spots are left behind. I don’t know about you, but when I’ve brushed with manual toothbrushes in the past I’ve always found it difficult to reach certain areas of my teeth, and that’s why I really found this feature appealing.
It also has a built-in pressure sensor to let you know when you’re brushing too hard. It’s great to be able to get at those hard to reach areas, but it won’t do you much good if you’re damaging your gums by brushing too hard. This is something that I’m personally very guilty of and I’ve paid for it with sore gums shortly after brushing. It’s nice to know this product has a feature to help me work on this bad habit.
This 3000 Series Brush doesn’t have all of the options you’ll find with the other brushes in this Oral-B series. If you’re familiar with the 5000 and 7000 series brushes you’ll know that the 5000 has five different brushing modes and the 7000 has six. In contrast, the 3000 series only comes with three different brushing modes: daily clean, sensitivity, and whitening. That still gives you some decent options for brushing your teeth and in my opinion covers most of what you really need anyway.
As a person with sensitive teeth I was happy to see that this mode is included. A lot of electric toothbrushes tend to vibrate too fast or apply too much pressure; this has kept me from switching to an electric toothbrush in the past. I’d be willing to bet that most people would be perfectly happy with two modes – one for normal brushing and one for sensitive teeth. At the very least, I doubt the limited number of modes included in this product would be enough to convince most people to purchase a more expensive brush.
A Couple of Minor Concerns
Overall, the Oral-B 3000 Pro is a very good brush, but it does have a couple of issues that bother me. The one that concerned me the most was the lack of a travel case. This might not be essential for everyone, but if you do a lot of traveling it’s something you expect your toothbrush to include. There are electric toothbrushes costing less money than this one that do include a travel case, so I was surprised that this feature was missing from the 3000 Pro.
The other thing that I found a little worrying about this product is that more than one customer suggested it doesn’t hold its charge very well after you’ve used it for a while. Generally, customers that do complain about this issue start to notice charging problems after about a year. It’s not that it won’t charge – it’s just that it won’t hold its charge very long. This means that you’re constantly having to place it in the charger. If you don’t do a lot of traveling this may not be a major issue, as you can always leave it in the charger overnight so that it’s ready for your next brushing session.
Disappointed about the Bluetooth
While the Oral-B Pro 3000 electric toothbrush does have some great features, the fact that it appears to be missing the Bluetooth connectivity of the more expensive models in this series was a little disappointing. I realize being able to track your brushing habits through Bluetooth connectivity with an app on your smart phone may be more of a gimmick, but it really captured my attention. I’d probably recommend paying the extra $25 to $50 so that you can have this feature.
